However I've been trying to find the answer to this noise my car seems to have. May 16, 2007 · 519 posts · Joined 2006. #2 · May 16, 2007. the noise is because how the gears are cut. helical cut gears are quieter and are used on forward gears. reverse whines because the gears are straight cut. straight cut gears are louder but transfer torque more efficiently. it takes more power to spin a tranny backwards than forwards.Hybrids in EV mode don't make a sound. It is only when you are in reverse. I just ignore it. Have had many hybrids in the past few years Just got use to it. As for stopping the sound with mods, consider what happens if you hit somebody and they sue and testify they didn't hear a sound warning them you were backing up.CRV has knocking sound coming from rear passenger side. inspect the braking system for warped or uneven rotor surface, as this may cause this noise and uneven pad wear.
